This Week’s Mass+… Pillars of this penitential season: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving

As we embark on another season of Lent, let us remember the pillars of this penitential season: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. Last year, as a parish we focused on Prayer. This year, we will focus on Almsgiving, the giving of our time, talents and treasure which is fundamental in our faith. During Lent, we are asked to focus more intently on “almsgiving,” which means donating money or goods to the poor and performing other acts of charity. According to the Catechism, “As one of the three pillars of Lenten practice, almsgiving is “a witness to fraternal charity” and “a work of justice pleasing to God.” (CCC, no. 2462).
